In fact, H pylori is now known to cause 80% stomach ulcers and 90% duodenal ulcers. It is also thought to cause stomach cancer and has recently been associated with heart disease.</p><p>When I had H pylori, from 2004-2007, I suffered many of the symptoms listed below. It is important to understand that chronic digestive infections can cause symptoms outside the digestive system.</p><p>Symptom #1 - Heartburn &#38; reflux. Contrary to belief, these symptoms are not usually caused by excess stomach acid. They are caused by acid burning irritated tissue that has been damaged by H pylori or foods. Some people gain significant relief by actually taking acid supplements!</p><p>Symptom #2 - Gastritis. H pylori causes an inflammatory response in the stomach, leading to gastritis.</p><p>Symptom #3 - Nausea. As with many digestive infections, H pylori causes nausea, particularly in the mornings. This can be confused with morning sickness in women.</p><p>Symptom #4 - Vomiting. When people first acquire the infection, it can cause severe vomiting. Chronic infections can also cause morning sickness. If there are bleeding ulcers, coffee-like grains can be seen in the vomit. Medical attention should be sought immediately.</p><p>Symptom #5 - Bloating. Helicobacter actually shuts down acid production in the stomach (which is why antacids like Nexium, Zantac and Prilosec should not be used long term). The disruption to the digestive process caused by Helicobacter pylori can lead to excess water being secreted into the intestines, causing diarrhoea.</p><p>Symptom #7 - Constipation. Eating a lot of so-called "red" meat was associated with a slightly higher increase (21%), and a high intake of processed meats increases your risk by a whopping 41%.</p><p><a href="http://www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Science-Nutrition/Meat-linked-to-increased-diabetes-risk-Meta-analysis" target="_blank">Media reports</a> are quick to point out that this is just the latest in "an ever increasing list of bad news for red and processed meat." </p><p>In all of these studies, the division of meat into "red" and "white" seems totally arbitrary, as I discussed at length in this post:<a href="http://blog.nutritiondata.com/ndblog/2009/04/meat-and-mortal.html" target="_blank"> Meat and mortality: What does color have to do with it?</a>  </p><p>In this particular case, the authors concede that the apparent association between meat consumption and diabetes risk could be explained by other factors. (So <em>why </em>exactly are we going to press with this result?)</p><p>A false association seems even more likely in this case than in the recent associations between meat intake and cancer risk or all-cause mortality.  At least there are plausible mechanisms to explain why high meat intake might increase cancer risk. For example, charred meat contains known carcinogens--although I hasten to point out that this has nothing to do with the "color" of the meat. </p><p>Diabetes is a disease of disordered carbohydrate metabolism. Meat is made up of protein and fat. How could eating more protein and fat increase the risk of diabetes?  Doesn't it seem more likely that there is something else about the lifestyle or dietary habits of people who eat large quantities of meat (especially processed meat) that might increase their diabetes risk? Are they also over-weight? Are they sedentary? What's their consumption of alcohol? For example, consuming large amounts of PUFAs might either cause you to miss out on the benefits of other fats, such as monounsaturated fats, or lead you to eat too much total fat. </p><p>Many experts recommend that PUFAs should make up 5-10% of your dietary calories and that seems reasonable to me.  The rest of your fat calories would come from monounsaturated fats like those found in olives and avocados and/or saturated fats from meat, dairy, and tropical oils.  Trans fats from hydrogenated oils and fried foods should ideally be kept to an absolute minimum.</p><p>In your example, you'd be eating 50g of PUFAs, for a total of 450 calories. In fact, obesity plays a major role in the poor health of women, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Such statistics can be alarming, and the increase in obesity is why places, such as the local Curves center have educational programs to address weight loss through focused curricula and classes.<br /><br />“Wouldn’t it be great to have a program that helps you reach your weight goal and stay there? In order to reach your weight goal, however, you have to retrain and sustain your metabolism,” said Lauren Sparrow of the Angleton Curves. In recognition of National Women’s Health and Fitness Day Wednesday, Curves in Angleton is announcing its no cost, 30-day diet plan program for all Angleton-area women interested in weight-loss results and health improvement.<br /><br />“National Women’s Health and Fitness Day gives us an opportunity to show women in our own community how easy it is to gain control of their weight,” Sparrow said. “We realize women in Angleton are thinking about going to other programs like Weight Watchers. In fact, obesity plays a major role in the poor health of women, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Such statistics can be alarming, and the increase in obesity is why places, such as the local Curves center have educational programs to address weight loss through focused curricula and classes.</p>
<p>“Wouldn’t it be great to have a program that helps you reach your weight goal and stay there? In order to reach your weight goal, however, you have to retrain and sustain your metabolism,” said Lauren Sparrow of the Angleton Curves. In recognition of National Women’s Health and Fitness Day Wednesday, Curves in Angleton is announcing its no cost, 30-day diet plan program for all Angleton-area women interested in weight-loss results and health improvement.</p>
<p>“National Women’s Health and Fitness Day gives us an opportunity to show women in our own community how easy it is to gain control of their weight,” Sparrow said. “We realize women in Angleton are thinking about going to other programs like Weight Watchers. <p>Having bad breath is probably the worst thing to have when you&#8217;re about to kiss someone for the first time.  Halitosis probably isn&#8217;t a huge problem for a lot of people out there, but there are those that find it an immense issue.  It&#8217;s not just bad breath, after all.  Social interactions can be made more awkward, especially if you&#8217;re suffering from a severe case of it.  If it&#8217;s really a bad case, it might be a symptom of a much more serious problem.  Whatever bothers you about it, it&#8217;s probably a good enough reason to take the problem to a doctor.</p>
<p><b>Many Causes of Halitosis</b></p>
<p>Maybe you don&#8217;t need treatment for anything or maybe you just need to chop off the causes of halitosis.  If you&#8217;re lucky, it&#8217;s just a matter of eating less garlic or similarly-themed food.  After all, some food just smells terrible.  If you have to eat that kind of food, it&#8217;s a fairly simple matter to pack some mints wherever you go to help freshen your breath.</p>
<p>If a simple change of diet doesn&#8217;t solve it, you might have a dental problem, as many of them count among the causes of halitosis.  Infections in your sinus can also cause bad breath.  Various health issues can also provoke halitosis, the kind that tends to stick because the underlying conditions stick around.</p>
<p><b>How to Get Rid of Bad Breath</b></p>
<p>If somehow, there&#8217;s no underlying reason for your bad breath, go with the basics.  Make the problem as simple as possible by simply going with good hygiene.  Oral hygiene is your best bet and it&#8217;ll keep your teeth healthy, too.  Avoid hard toothbrushes.  Soft toothbrushes don&#8217;t push your gums down which can cause more bad breath.</p>
<p>Those receding gums, among other things, are bad for your teeth and are great spots to get food stuck in your teeth.  If food gets stuck in your teeth, you&#8217;ll soon find yourself with some rotting food particles hanging around your mouth, causing halitosis.  Make sure you clean everywhere in your mouth.  The tongue is a place often uncleaned as it can be awkward.  Get to it as it can also cause halitosis.  Flossing rounds up the oral hygiene aspect of how to get rid of bad breath.</p>
<p>Perhaps your hygiene is up to par and yet you still have bad breath.  Well, you might have dry mouth.  Dry mouth is another common cause of halitosis.  Making sure that you eat on time, in a strange way, can help as you&#8217;re forced to keep your mouth moist and hydrated.  If you happen to be a smoker, one way or another,  you&#8217;re going to find yourself with halitosis.</p>
<p><b>Looking It In The Mouth</b></p>
<p>Halitosis is, luckily, an easily tamed condition, especially since it&#8217;s a matter of the mouth.  As a symptom, it&#8217;s something to be largely ignored in favor of what&#8217;s causing it, as handling that medical condition first would be at most a stop-gap measure.  Hygiene might make halitosis go away for a while, but it&#8217;ll always come back.</p>
<p>The causes of halitosis, then, become more important than the bad breath itself at times.  Make sure to visit your dentist regularly to catch any problems early.</p>
